It was nice to return to the classroom today with my students. This early release day saw the members of M102 finish chapter 13 in Bud, Not Buddy. The students began the lesson with a piece of writing pertaining to a focus question. They then had some time to work in their small reading groups to discuss the key events of this new chapter.

During math class later in the school day, the fifth graders worked on some division cluster problems. I was happy to see the level of recall, as the students connected this lesson with a prior one during our work with multiplication.

The fifth graders also received paperwork concerning the fifth grade trip to science camp in early December. There are a number of forms that need to be signed and returned to school as well as information for parents at home. In addition, the fifth grade team is on the look out for chaperones to stay over different days down at the Alton Jones camp. The fifth graders are hard at work on their first large scale social studies project. This project sees the students using the explain everything app on their iPads to create a presentation concerning the discovery of the Kennewick Man in Washington state. The members of M102 are engaged and energized by this work. I can't wait to see the finished projects next week.

Today was a Bud, Not Buddy day during our ELA time. The students reached a major turning point in the novel and then spent some time inside their reading groups working on a fun project in which they gave names to the last few chapters in the book. As we make our way to the later stages of the book, I can't wait to see the students do some long form writing about the major plot points of the novel.

The fifth graders continue to make steady progress with their opinion pieces. I was able to conference with five more writers today as many others continued to type their second draft of their pieces. The students are doing a nice job of peer editing pieces before they meet with me. This work will continue on Friday.

The fifth graders had a meaningful writing session today. I am in the process of having writer's conferences with individuals and I have loved what I have read so far. Many other students were able to peer edit one another's pieces today. This work will continue into tomorrow.

Today was a fun day for the members of M102 in math class. We continued to work on division problems. As part of the lesson the students had the option to try a number of different puzzles and multi-step problems that involved division concepts. I enjoyed seeing students persevere through these work items.
