2/25/15

Students continued to progress further into Number the Stars. Today, students paired up and read with a classmate. While reading, each group uses their 3-step journal to focus in on key moments and characters from the novel. Students are doing a nice job in working together as well as making connections between the book and other books that they have read in the past.

During writing class, students have begun to turn their attention to their next opinion writing piece. For this assignment, each individual will have to select a topic of their own. I have been encouraging each student to really think deeply about this paper. The goal is for each member of the class to pick a topic that is both meaningful to them and had ample amounts of evidence to build a strong thesis. I look forward to working with my class throughout this process over the next few weeks.

Starting next week, students in room 312 will be receiving MCAS packets for homework. We have begun to focus in on practice ELA and math problems in class and I think it would be beneficial a few times a week for students to continue this work at home.

Homework

Math - third page in math packet

Reading - 30 minutes of quiet reading and fill out reader's log on nightly basis

Blog topic: In chapter 6, characters are speaking in secret code. Give some examples of this and explain what the characters actually mean.
